A native of Marianna, Florida, Doug Woodlief came to Memphis State in 1963 and became a starter at linebacker after redshirting as a freshman. He was credited with four pass interceptions as a sophomore and started allĀ ten games in his first season of varsity action at MSU. During his junior year he tallied four interceptions which he returned for 45 yards. He was the second leading tackler in 1964 being credited with 71 total stops. Following his junior season, Woodlief was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League and played for the Rams as an inside linebacker for five years. Following retirement from the NFL, Woodlief began a career as a high school football coach in the Los Angeles area.
