Twelve student-athletes collect ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis' men's and women's tennis programs each had one more record-setting accolade to add to their respective successful seasons, as both squads earned team and individual academic honors from the ITA for the 2017-18 campaign, the organization announced Tuesday.
Both programs garnered ITA All-Academic Team honors by achieving the required 3.20 team GPA, while 12 student-athletes met the 3.50 GPA benchmark to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status.
On the men's side, the Tigers earned their 14th overall ITA All-Academic Team honor with a team GPA of 3.60, as the squad climbed to its highest ITA national ranking in school history earlier this season. Individually, the men's program landed five student-athletes on the ITA Scholar-Athlete list, which is the most since the 2011 squad was honored with six.
Senior Shakeel Manji and juniors Chris Patzanovsky and Felix Rauch each collected their third ITA Scholar-Athlete honors. Sophomores Marshall Sullivan and Turner Voges also earned their first ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition.
For the ninth consecutive season and 12th overall, the Tigers' women's team was named an ITA All-Academic Team with a collective GPA of 3.66. Complementing its best finish in the Hayden Perez era, seven Tigers were named to the ITA Scholar-Athlete list, which ties the 2013 team for the most in school history.
Both seniors gained ITA Scholar-Athlete status, as Anki Wind recorded her program-best fifth honor and Hanna Sohn was recognized for the third time as a Tiger. Sophomore Katherine Cao collected her second honor, while newcomers Laura Bente, Lina Hohnhold, Alisha Reayer and Claire Sullivan were also honored as an ITA Scholar-Athlete.
