Curtis Akins Named to Butkus Award Watch List

Second watch list in a week for the Memphis senior linebacker.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. –Senior linebacker Curtis Akins has been named to the Butkus Award Watch List, his second national watch list in the past week after earning a spot on the Bednarik Award Watch List.
The Byhalia, Mississippi, native had a team-high 88 total tackles. In a win over No. 24 ranked Navy, he had 11 tackles and one fumble recovery, helping the Tigers to their second win over a top-25 ranked opponent of the season.
Heading in to his final season at Memphis, Akins has 176 total tackles over 32 career games.
Akins is one of four Tigers currently in Newport, Rhode Island, for the American Athletic Conference Football Media Day. The first day's festivities on Monday will be capped by a Clam Bake, which will air live on the American Digital Network Plus on Facebook at 5 pm CT. Tuesday's coverage at media day will also air on Facebook beginning at 7:30 am CT.
Memphis reports for fall camp on Thursday, August 2. Tiger fans are invited to the Saturday, August 11 practice which will be Football Fan Fest. That event begins at 4 pm with an equipment sale, followed by a 4:20 pm scrimmage and a 6 pm autograph session. Admission and parking for Football Fan Fest are free. The event will be held at the UofM Park Avenue Campus. Fans are asked to park in the lot behind the left field wall of FedExPark.
