May 31, 2018 | Women's Soccer
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's soccer team and head coach Brooks Monaghan announced Thursday the addition of Ted Bartels as a volunteer assistant coach for the Tigers.
"We're excited to add Ted to our staff," said Monaghan. "Ted's situation is very similar to that of our former volunteer assistant, Jordan. Jordan's uncle was my coach growing up and Ted's father, Chris, was my college coach at Memphis. Ted has been involved in the game for a long time and has had success not only as a player, but as a coach. I think he will bring a lot to the table and we are excited he is joining our team."
Bartels, the son of former University of Memphis men's coach Chris Bartels, joins the Memphis staff with playing and coaching experience that will be valuable toward the success of the Tigers.
Over the past four years, Bartels has been the head coach at Germantown High School as well as an assistant coach for the Southwest Tennessee Community College women's team this past season. He has also been the Rec Coaching Director for Germantown Legends as well as the coach for two of the U11 boys teams for Legends.
Bartels holds several coaching licenses including:
In addition to his coaching experience, Bartels was a member of the Winthrop University men's team in 2006, 2008-10. In 2010, he was named to the UNCW Classic All-Tournament team. Bartels also spent his club days competing in Memphis for MFC with experience playing in Poland, Denmark, and England.
From 2003-06, Bartels played for Briarcrest where he scored 50 goals and was a three-time All-Region and two-time All-State selection. He also played for the Tennessee State ODP for five years.
