Track And Field Adds Signee To 2018 Class
May 21, 2018 | Women's Track and Field
Simpson re-set her own Welsh junior record in the hammer last weekend.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Tigers track and field head coach Kevin Robinson announced Monday that Amber Simpson has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Memphis this fall. Simpson joins the Tigers women's throws group.
Memphis track and field's newest signee becomes a member of the largest incoming class in recent program history. Robinson and his staff added 11 in the fall signing period, including two that competed this spring. Last week, nine more signees were announced, and with Simpson's signing, the total number of newcomers is 21 for the 2018-19 campaign.
The following is a brief biographical sketch on Simpson and a comment from Robinson:

Robinson comments on Simpson: "I'm excited Amber is joining our track and field family. Just this last week, she set a personal-best in the hammer at the Welsh junior championships. She's a young, raw athlete who's put up some solid marks. Amber is already at the level where she could score points at the conference meet with the marks she has now. With the rest of her season (only three meets into the season) at home and with her training here starting in the fall, I feel she can do really well next year as a Tiger. Her addition definitely improves the depth of our throws group."
