Despite the 60-33 lead in the series, Arkansas State has an 11-7 advantage since 2009. The teams split the series last season, Arkansas State swept in 2016 and Memphis swept in 2015.
The Tigers are beginning a stretch of playing 8-of-9 games at home. Memphis will host back-to-back weekend series at FedExPark for the first time since February.
The Tigers leading hitter, senior outfielder Tyler Webb is tied for seventh in the NCAA with 14 doubles. Webb is batting .320 with a team-high 20 runs scored.
The Tigers lost another close game, falling 8-7 to Cincinnati on April 8. The narrow defeat was the 15th game that Memphis has lost by three runs or less this season. Memphis has six one-run losses, five two-run losses and four three-run losses.
Memphis has been unable to get a winning streak started so far this season, winning back-to-back games only twice this season. This is the first time since 2005 that the Tigers have failed to win at least three-straight games during the first seven weeks of the season. The 2005 team went the entire season without a winning streak.
