Women’s Golf Moves to Second at American Championships

American Championships Second Round Scores

Memphis just four strokes off the lead at championship event.

MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis women's golf team climbed a spot in the standings in the second round of The American Championships on the Conservatory Course at Hammock Beach Resort, Monday. Memphis fired a second round 301 and the Lady Tigers' combined 36-hole 597 has the team four strokes off Houston's lead.

Emily Goldenstein had another solid day on the course. After hitting the turn at +2, she had just one blemish on the back side, doubling 11 to finish day two with a 76 (+4) that has her tied for fourth overall.

Sydney Colwill climbed eight spots in the standings with a day two 74 (+2). After bogeys on two and three, Colwill had a clean card the rest of the day to move to a tie for 12^th overall.

Michaela Fletcher also made a move on Monday, carding four birdies to offset seven bogeys to finish with a 75. Her 151 has her in a tie for 14^th overall, a six spot jump from Sunday.

Sophomore Abby Herrmann also scored for Memphis on Tuesday, using a birdie on 16 to put a 76 (+4) in the books for her second round. Her 152 has her tied for 16^th heading in to Tuesday's final round.

Madison Thomas salvaged her second round with a birdie on 18, but with two double bogeys and five bogeys, the junior slid 14 spots with a day two 80. Her 153 still has her just outside the top 20 in a tie for 21^st.

East Carolina's Dorthea Forbrigd leads the field with a 144, while Houston's Megan Thothonog is a stroke back at 145. Defending medalist Kaeli Jones of UCF is third at 146, followed by a four-player tie for fourth that includes Memphis' Goldenstein.

With four scorers in the top 16 through 36 holes, Houston leads the team competition with a 593. Memphis is four strokes back at 597, followed by UCF (598) and East Carolina (599). Final rounds will tee off Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. Memphis will be paired with players from Houston for the final round and Lady Tiger tee times will begin at 9:20 am (ET).
