No. 10 LSU, No. 20 South Florida headline 15-team field in West Point, Miss.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis will close out its regular-season spring schedule by participating in the Old Waverly Collegiate Monday and Tuesday in West Point, Miss.
Â
The Tigers will be part of a strong field that includes 10th ranked LSU and 20th ranked South Florida, the defending champ. Also in the 15-team field are host Mississippi State, Chattanooga, South Alabama and Ole Miss, led by Braden Thornberry, one of 10 candidates in the running for national player of the year.
"This is one of our favorite events of the year," said Tigers coach Blake Smart. "Being at Old Waverly is always a treat."
Â
Memphis, with two top five finishes in three spring events, will be represented by its consistent fivesome: Chase Harris, Rodi Vlasveld, Brad Bawden, Jordan Even and Borja Martin. Harris, Vlasveld, Bawden, Even and Martin have represented the Tigers in each of their spring events.
Â
Harris, a junior from Jackson, Tenn., is coming off a third-place finish in last week's Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate in Nashville, where he shot 3-under 210. Harris has had back-to-back top 10 finishes.
Â
Bawden, a junior from Hockley, England, fired a 2-under 69 to close out the Ryman Intercollegiate. Bawden and Harris were the only Tigers to shot sub-70 rounds in the 54-hole event.
Â
The Tigers closed strong at the Ryman Intercollegiate by shooting 4-over 288 -- the third-best round of the final day -- to move into fourth place behind Rice, Lipscomb and Chattanooga.
Â
After the Old Waverly Collegiate, the Tigers will travel to Palm Harbor, Fla., April 22-24 to participate in the American Athletic Conference Championships.
"It's important for us to continue building momentum heading into the AAC Championship," Smart said. "I feel we have improved every week this spring. We are close to putting everything together."Â
