Memphis looks to even the series Saturday at 2 p.m.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis scored eight runs on 11 hits but fell just short, 12-8, in the series opener with Baylor Friday night at FedExPark. The Tigers (11-24) will look to even the series Saturday at 2 p.m.

Ben Brooks had the biggest day of his young career, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. He had previously only had one career multiple-hit game.

Carlos Williams also finished with two hits with an RBI and two runs scored. Nick Vaage was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored.

Baylor scored in six different innings, but did the majority of the damage early with three runs in the first and four runs in the third.

The Bears hit four home runs, including three off of Tigers starting pitcher Riley Cabral. Cabral allowed nine runs on nine hits in 3.2 innings pitched.

Drew Tally pitched out of the bullpen for Memphis, logging 3.1 innings and allowing two runs. Joshua Scheer pitched 1.1 innings with one run allowed and Taylor Bobo recorded the final two outs.

After Baylor started the game with a three-run first inning, the Tigers burst out for three runs in the bottom of the second to tie the game up. Vaage singled with one out and Williams drove him in with a two-out RBI single.

Brooks hit his first single to put two runners on with two outs and Colton Neel came through with a two-run single to left field.

Baylor scored four more runs in the top of the third to retake the lead and go up 7-3. The Bears hit their second home run of the game, this time a three-run shot.

The Bears put two more runs on the board in the fourth, including a third home run. Another Baylor run came home in the sixth to make the lead 10-3.
