Clark shoots a career-best 585 in his relay Friday.
CHARLESTON, S.C. – University of Memphis sophomore Levi Clark advanced to the smallbore discipline final and placed sixth in the nation at the 2018 NCAA Rifle Championships Friday. The Citadel is hosting the two-day NCAA event.
Clark's sixth-place performance is the best in Tigers program history since his head coach, Dan Hermsmeier, placed fifth at the 2011 NCAA Championships. In 2014, Beth Lee advanced to the final in smallbore at the NCAA Championships and finished sixth.
Clark shot a career-best 585 in his smallbore relay to advance to the discipline final. His 585 score was tied for the fourth-best mark in his relay.
The Clackamas, Ore., native placed sixth in the final with a 408.1 score.
"Levi shot a fantastic match today," said Hermsmeier. "We discussed controlling nerves and expectations before he started, and his efforts were apparent in his performance. It was great for him to have a career-best smallbore score, especially under the intense pressure of this match. His teammates and coaches could not be more proud of him."
Clark's previous smallbore career-best was a 584 twice. He shot a 584 at TCU earlier this season and also at West Virginia in 2016-17.
Junior Leighton Dempster continues Memphis' competition at the NCAA Championships Saturday. Dempster shoots in air rifle.
