Memphis Heads to Middle Tennessee for Midweek Series

Tigers and Blue Raiders to play Tuesday and Wednesday
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis baseball team heads to Middle Tennessee to square off in a midweek series Tuesday and Wednesday at Reese Smith Jr. Field in Murfreesboro.

Both teams enter the week after playing in the Tri-Star Classic at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The Tigers beat the Blue Raiders 6-4 on the first day of the tournament. Memphis finished the event 1-2 and Middle Tennessee went 2-1.
The Tigers' win over Middle Tennessee on Friday snapped a four-game losing streak to the Raiders dating back to 2016. In it's last five trips to Murfreesboro, Memphis has posted just a 3-6 record. The Tigers haven't swept the Raiders in Murfreesboro since the 2002 season.
Memphis is off to its slowest start since the 2010 season, when the Tigers also got out to a 4-7 record through 11 games. The 2010 Tigers finished 28-30 but went 12-12 in league play and finished third in C-USA.
Memphis does not have a save through the first 11 games of the season. The last time the Tigers went through the first 11 games of the season without a save was the 2010 season. Memphis did not record its first save until the 17th game of the 2010 season, when Dan Langfield closed out a 5-3 win over South Alabama.
LHP Danny Denz will start on the mound Tuesday against Middle Tennessee. Last week, Denz started and tossed six shutout innings against Southeast Missouri. He struck out four batters and allowed just one hit.
Memphis first baseman Kyle Ouellette had a big week at the plate, batting .429 in four games with a double a home run and a walk-off hit against Southeast Missouri. Ouellette led the Tigers with six hits and four RBI.
Outfielder Tyler Webb is the Tigers' leading hitter with a .375 average in 10 starts. He has 15 hits, four doubles and a home run. His .444 on-base percentage is also the best on the team.
The Tigers are back at FedExPark this weekend for a three-game series against Little Rock. The Tigers and Trojans have not played since the 2006 season. Memphis holds a 39-9 edge in the all-time series.
