Tigers begin league play with 4-1 win

DALLAS, Texas – Despite a slow start, the No. 41 Memphis men's tennis team tallied a 4-1 victory against SMU in its first conference match of the season.
Sunday afternoon's win also marked the sixth straight victory against SMU (5-8) in the all-time series.
In doubles play, Kai Lemke and Marshall Sullivan teamed up for the first time this spring and turned in a 6-1 win on court 2, before the Mustangs took the top spot and claimed a tiebreak on court 3 for the opening point.
Memphis (6-4) answered quickly in singles play, winning five of the six first sets.
Junior Felix Rauch put the Tigers on the board with a win at the No. 4 spot. His 6-3, 6-1 victory extended his singles win streak to five matches as he was the first off the court.
Senior Andrew Watson followed with a 6-0, 6-3 win on court 2 to put the Tigers in front, while senior Kai Lemke claimed a 6-1, 6-4 win at the third spot to push the Tiger lead to 3-1.
Senior Ryan Peniston provided his fifth match-clinching victory of the season when he took the top spot by a final of 6-3, 6-1 to secure the victory for Memphis.
The Tigers return to action Wednesday when the squad travels to No. 22 Tulane. First serve from New Orleans, La., is slated for 1 p.m.
