Softball Defeats USF In Thrilling Fashion Saturday

Delaney Smith records walk-off single to lift Memphis to victory in the bottom of the seventh
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team came away with a thrilling 2-1 victory over USF Saturday afternoon to improve to 26-10 on the year and 3-3 in American Athletic Conference play.

USF took an early lead in the top of the fourth inning with a pair of hits and a sacrifice fly. Memphis answered, however, in the bottom half of the fourth. Ashley Threatt led off the inning with a single up the middle and her pinch runner, Jessie Lamb, came around to score on a sacrifice bunt and infield single by Regan Hadley.

The pitching battled continued through the fifth and the sixth until the Tigers struck again in the bottom of the seventh. This time, Hadley led the inning off with a double down the left field line and her pinch runner, Tyler Johnson, scored on a single up the middle by freshman Delaney Smith.

Molly Smith hurled a complete game for the Tigers as she improves to 15-4 on the year. Smith finished with five strikeouts and just one walk allowed in the complete game. In addition to Hadley, Kyler Trosclair Klatt finished with two hits.
