Tigers extend win streak to eight matches
BATON ROUGE, La. – In its final road contest of the regular season, the No. 22/21 Memphis men's tennis team stretched its win streak to eight matches after the Tigers capped the weekend with a 5-2 victory at LSU Sunday afternoon.
LSU (8-10, 1-5) struck first with wins and No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, but despite dropping the opening point, the visiting Tigers (13-4, 2-0) bounced back in singles to claim the win.
In singles play, Kai Lemke and Ryan Peniston delivered straight-set victories, while Andrew Watson, Jan Pallares and Chris Patzanovsky went the distance in three-set wins.
Lemke was the first off the court and got Memphis on the board with his sixth straight win. The senior's 6-2, 6-2 win also marked his 10th victory this season in dual match play.
#36 Peniston followed to grab the Tigers their first lead of the day, while Pallares turned in his sixth straight win with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 victory.
#91 Watson also improved his win streak to a team-best nine matches while also clinching Sunday's match for Memphis with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 victory. Patzanovsky's 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 win on court 5 halted a four-match slide for the junior and capped the scoring for Memphis.
