Jaidi Sets School Record In Women's Discus Saturday

Vallery wins first outdoor shot put crown of his career.
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Another week. Another meet. Another record.
For the second-straight week in the 2018 outdoor season, the University of Memphis track and field team sets a school record. This time, Mona Jaidi claimed the school mark with a 170-8.75 (52.03m) throw in the women's discus. Jaidi's discus effort surpassed the previous record by nearly three feet (167-11/51.19m). All-America Susan King had held the discus record since 2008.
Last week, Martina Rodriguez Sala set the school mark in the women's 5000 meters.
On Saturday, Memphis won three titles in the men's and women's shot put and the men's 4x400-meter relay. The Tigers had 11 top-three performances.

- Mona Jaidi not only broke the previous school record in the women's discus by nearly three feet, but also shattered her own previous-best in the event by over 25 feet.
- In addition to Jaidi, Samantha Lenton and Nina de Poorter set personal-bests in the women's discus. Lenton improved her discus personal-best by 27 feet and de Poorter by three feet.
- Jaidi, Lenton and de Poorter combined to improve their personal-bests in the women's discus by an average of just over 18 feet (18.3).
- Saida Burns-Moore, who won the women's triple jump Friday, placed second in the women's high jump with a personal-best mark Saturday. She improved her outdoor high jump personal-best by four inches.
- Rafael Vallery won the first outdoor shot put title of his career Saturday. It was the second outdoor crown of his career, as he won the discus at the 2017 Memphis Invitational.
- Jordan Shackleford placed second in the women's long jump for the second-straight meet.
- Jordan Wesner (men's high jump) and Olushola Olojo (men's long jump) returned to action for the first time since last May. Wesner and Olojo did not compete in the 2017-18 indoor campaign due to injuries.
- Imri Persiado (men's 200 meters) and Aaron Persinger (men's 400-meter hurdles) set personal-bests Saturday. Both recorded third-place finishes in their events.
- Parker Evans threw a personal-best in the discus.
