The senior duo combine for half of the scoring offense for Memphis
UNCASVILLE, Conn. – University of Memphis seniors Cheyenne Creighton and Brea Elmore have earned Third-Team All-American Athletic Conference honors for the second consecutive season as announced by the league office Friday afternoon. It also marks the second-straight year and second year since joining The American in 2013 that the Tigers have had two players on either the first-, second-, or third-team in the same season.
Â
The 2014 season saw two members on the All-Freshman Team as well as a first-team selection.
Â
After successful junior seasons, Creighton and Elmore have continued to be a driving force for the Memphis squad.
Â
Creighton maintained a scoring average of 14.3 points per game throughout the regular season and topped her previous career-high in rebounding with 8.2 rebounds per game. She ranks third in the league with 12 double-doubles, which is also a career-high for the Pickering, Ontario, Canada native. Creighton reached the 1,000-point milestone this season in the 21-point victory over Tulsa on Jan. 13.
Â
With 20 career double-doubles, Creighton will finish as one of just six players to record at least 20 double-doubles in their careers at Memphis. She also enters the first round of the American Athletic Conference Championship five points shy of sliding into the top-20 all-time in scoring. Only 13 other players at Memphis have recorded at least 1,000 points and 600 rebounds in their career.
Â
Elmore led the Tigers in scoring this season with a career-high 15.3 points per contest. She leads Memphis with 443 points to-date this season and against UCF on Feb. 21, Elmore became the 25th member of the 1,000-point club at Memphis. She has hit a career-high 64 three-pointers this season and will end her Memphis career ranked eighth in career three-pointers made.
Â
This season, Elmore has had 12 20-plus point performances including a career-high 26 points on the road at Cincinnati. Elmore has also increased her ability to share the ball as she has recorded a career-high 103 assists to-date. Elmore ranks in the top eight in league scoring and top five in conference-only assists.
Â
After earning the No. 8 seed with wins in three out of the final four games, Memphis will take on No. 9 Tulane in the first round of the American Athletic Conference Championship Saturday afternoon. Tip-off against Green Wave is slated for 5 p.m. CT at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
