Track And Field Wins Ten Titles At Rhodes Invitational Saturday

Memphis has 25 top-three performances, including four double winners.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis' Calvin Austin, Davon DeMoss, Imri Persiado and Luke Vaughn all were double winners in second-day action at the Rhodes College Invitational Saturday. The Tigers recorded 10 first-place finishes and had 25 top-three performances.
Austin and DeMoss both earned their two titles as members of the Tigers' 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays, and Persiado won the men's 200 meters and ran a leg on the first-place 4x100 meter relay. Vaughn swept the men's discus and shot put crowns Saturday.
On the women's side, Mona Jaidi (discus, shot put), Melinda Murdock (800m, 4x400m relay) and Loushanya Nemour (200m, 4x400m relay) all had two top-three finishes Saturday.
In late action Friday, Martina Rodriguez Sala set a school record in the women's 5000 meters. Rodriguez Sala, who returns for her final outdoor campaign in 2018, won the women's 5000 meters in a school-record time of 16:34.51. Her time improved the previous school record by 14 seconds and broke a mark that stood for 11 seasons (16:48.86 by Emily Malinowski in 2007).

Tigers Tidbits/Rhodes College Invitational Saturday Highlights
- Memphis swept three events Saturday. The Tigers finished first, second and third in the men's 800 meters, men's shot put and women's shot put.
- Loushanya Nemour's time in the women's 200 meters was a personal-best.
- Antaun Andrews tied his personal-best in the men's 200 meters with a time of 22.15 seconds.
- Celine Rone ran a personal-best time in the women's 400 meters.
- Luke Vaughn and Rafael Vallery both had personal-best throws in the shot put. Vallery's 58-10.25 (17.94m) toss surpassed his previous-best by two feet.
- Mona Jaidi and Kate Hise both recorded personal-bests in the women's shot put. Hise improved her personal-best by two feet in the event.
- Brock Ballard's title in the men's 800 meters was the third of his career in the event. He also won the 800-meters crown at the 2015 Red Wolves Open and 2017 Memphis Invitational.
- Jason Kimmet won his first career 400-meter hurdles title Saturday.
- Mona Jaidi (women's shot put), Celine Rone (women's 400 meters) and Paige Sandwell (women's 3000-meter steeplechase) won their first career titles in those events.
