Lady Tigers finished fourth at same event last year.
MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis women's golf team is in Augusta, Georgia, for a three-day event on the Forest Hills Golf Club, starting Friday. Memphis is one of 15 teams competing in the 13th annual 3M Augusta Invitational. A three-day event, similar to what the American Athletic Conference Championships will be next month, the tournament will utilize tee times off one and ten for the first two days of competition and a shot gun start for the final round on Sunday. Forest Hills will play 6,228 yards and will be a par 72 course for the 2018 event.
Memphis has sent senior Emily Goldenstein, juniors Michaela Fletcher, Madison Thomas and Sydney Colwill and freshman Julia Matzat to this three-day event. This will be Matzat's first career event on the team entry at an event. The Florida native also competed twice in the fall as an individual competitor.
Goldenstein and Thomas are coming in having captured two of the last three American Athletic Conference player of the week honors. Goldenstein was the runner-up at the River Landing Classic in the team's last event, and Thomas posted a top five finish at the Moon Golf Classic in February.
Fletcher is coming off of her best finish of the spring, having finished with an even par 216 to finish tied for eighth at the River Landing Classic.
Memphis will be joined in the field by host Augusta, Central Arkansas, Columbia, Daytona State, Eastern Michigan, East Tennessee, Georgia, James Madison, Mercer, Middle Tennessee, Southern Miss, Troy, Virginia Tech and defending tournament champs, Purdue. Augusta and Purdue have won the last two events, with Purdue's 878 last year giving them the tournament championship. Memphis finished 10 strokes behind Purdue last year, finishing fourth, with three Lady Tigers finishing in the top 25, including a tie for fifth for Fletcher.
Memphis will be paired with players from Georgia and Mercer for the opening day of play and will begin tee times off hole one at 9:30 a.m. (ET). Live scoring will be available from results.golfstat.com.
