Elmore led Memphis with her 11th 20-plus point performance of the season
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's basketball team led wire-to-wire in a 65-56 victory Saturday afternoon over Tulsa on Senior Day. Pregame, Memphis honored seniors Breigha Wilder-Cochran, Brea Elmore, and Cheyenne Creighton. All three players started for the Tigers in their final home game at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse. The Tigers improve to 9-19 on the year and 4-11 in AAC play.
How It Happened
With emotions running high, Memphis jumped out to a 7-0 start against the Golden Hurricane. Cheyenne Creighton hit the first Tiger basket of the game while Brea Elmore hit her first three-pointer during the run.
Memphis built its lead to as many as 11, 29-18, with 3:21 before intermission on a Creighton lay-up before Tulsa finished the half on a 7-1 run including a three-pointer at the buzzer.
The Tigers came out of the break with a 9-4 run to go back up double-digits over the Golden Hurricane. Tulsa continued to battle and several times throughout the third quarter the Memphis lead was cut to as little as three.
Much like the rest of the contest, Memphis bounced back to build another double-digit lead over the visiting Golden Hurricane in the fourth. In the final three minutes of play, the closest Tulsa would come would be six points.
Turning Point
Memphis opened the first quarter on a 7-0 run and never looked back. The closest Tulsa would come was three in the third quarter, but Memphis had an answer to never relinquish its lead.
