Thomas Named AAC Women’s Golfer of the Week
Feb 21, 2018 | Women's Golf
Posted her second top five of the season at the Moon Golf Invitational earlier this week.
MEMPHIS – Junior women's golfer Madison Thomas was named the American Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week, Wednesday. This is the first career weekly honor for Thomas and marks just the fourth weekly honor received by a Lady Tiger from the conference office in program history.

Thomas earned the honor with her second top five finish of the season on Tuesday. Thomas fired a 217 at the Moon Golf Invitational in Melbourne, Florida, earlier this week. Her opening round 69 tied her career-low round and her second round 71 had her atop the leaderboard at the end of day one at the event. Tuesday, she carded a 77 to finish at 217 (+1) for the event, good for a tie for fifth place.

The tie for fifth is her second top five finish this season, having finished fourth at the Magnolia Invitational in the fall season. In her three-year Memphis career, Thomas now has three career top five finishes, and eight career top 20 finishes in 22 total events.

Thomas becomes just fourth Lady Tiger to earn a weekly nod from the American Athletic Conference, now in its fourth golf season. Leighann Cabush (2/26/14), Michaela Fletcher (2/25/15) and Emily Goldenstein (3/26/15) are the program's other weekly honorees. Cabush was also named the league's player of the month in October of 2015.

The women's golf team is preparing for its next competition, the River Landing Classic in Wallace, North Carolina, March 5-6.
