Tigers Continue Homestand Against UCF Wednesday

Memphis looks to finish the regular season strong with two more home games
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's basketball team hosts their second game of a three game homestand as UCF comes to town Wednesday evening. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. tipoff at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse and will be streamed on the American Digital Network for free.

The Tigers started their final stretch of home games with a 13-point win over Tulane in the Play4Kay game last Sunday. Despite being shorthanded, Memphis led Tulane in every category except total turnovers. Cheyenne Creighton and Brea Elmore led the way offensively, scoring 20 points each. Two Tigers recorded double-doubles, as Creighton added 11 rebounds to her 20 points and Jasmine James picked up 14 points and 12 rebounds.

The effort was James' first double-double of the season, as well as her first game of double-digit rebounds. Overall, four Tigers scored in double-figures with Jada Stinson joining the group. Ball movement was a major factor in the win, as Memphis assisted on 23 of their 29 field goals, a season-high. Taylor Barnes led Memphis with eight of those 23 assists. The UCF Knights, with a 17-9 overall record, visit Memphis for the second showdown between the teams this season. The Knights currently hold a 9-4 conference record, placing them in a tie for third in The American. UCF's last contest was a 77-68 overtime loss to USF in the War On I-4 game Sunday afternoon.

The Knights are led in scoring by Zakiya Saunders, who logs 15.3 points per game this season. Two other players score 10 or more points per game. Nyala Shuler leads the team in rebounds, snaring 7.2 boards per contest.

Defense is the name of the game for the Knights, as they allow only 54.7 points per game, second lowest in the conference. And while UCF has only made 38 three-pointers on the year, they hold opponents to shooting 27.6 percent from long range.

Katie Abrahamson-Henderson is the head coach of the Knights, and is currently in her second season as head coach. She led UCF to the second-best improvement in the country her first season at the helm, winning 14 more games than the year before her hire.
