PROVIDENCE, R.I. – University of Memphis junior forward Mike Parks Jr. was named to the weekly American Athletic Conference Honor Roll Monday for his performances in the team's two league road victories last week.
Â
Parks was honored for the second time this season. He was named to the honor roll Jan. 22 after recording the first double-double of his career (21 points and 11 rebounds in a Jan. 16 home win against UConn).
Â
Parks, from Cleveland, Ohio, scored 17 points with four rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal in the Tigers' 70-67 win at SMU's Moody Coliseum Wednesday. Parks had 13 first-half points in the victory, including seven straight during an11-7 Memphis run that gave the Tigers a 19-17 lead. Memphis never trailed again in the game.
Â
In Saturday's 68-63 win at Tulane, Parks contributed 15 points and six rebounds. And, once again, he was instrumental in a key run. When Tulane trimmed the Memphis lead to one point (37-36) midway through the second half, Parks answered by scoring seven straight points. His spree ignited a 13-6 run for a 50-42 lead. The Tigers never trailed again.
Â
Parks, in his first season at the U of M, ranks third in field goal percentage in conference play. He is shooting 57.8 percent (63-of-109) and is tied for 13th in rebounding (5.6). He is averaging 10.9 points in league games.
Â
Memphis (16-11, 7-7 American) returns home to play host to Houston (21-5, 11-3 American) Thursday night at FedExForum.
