Tigers set for weekend in Missouri

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After a 2-1 effort last week, the Memphis women's tennis team is back on the road for a pair of nonconference matchups in Columbia, Mo.
The Tigers (5-3, 0-1) play Minnesota in a neutral-site match on Saturday at 9 a.m. and will close the weekend against Missouri on Sunday at 1 p.m.
After dropping a match against Cincinnati on Thursday, the Tigers rebounded by defeating Miami (OH) and Wright State to close the week. Hanna Sohn paced the way with a 5-1 record in singles and doubles action. Sohn and teammate Katherine Cao debuted at No. 54 in the ITA doubles rankings, and improved their record to 7-1 in dual match play with three wins last week.
Minnesota (7-1, 0-0) is off to its best start since the 2012 spring season. The Gophers compiled three wins last weekend with victories against Marquette, South Dakota and Drake. Caitlyn Merzbacher leads the way with an impressive 8-0 record in singles play. This weekend will be the first road test of the season for the Gophers.
Host Missouri (8-1, 0-0) swept a double-header last weekend against AAC member Tulane and South Dakota State. Serena Nash anchors singles play with a 4-0 record at the top spot. Mackenzy Middlebrooks has compiled a 6-0 singles record this spring between the No. 3 and 4 positions, and has won her last 12 singles decisions dating back to fall play. The Tigers also feature the 49th-ranked duo in Nash and Clare Raley.
The Tigers and Gophers have only met once on the court, a 4-3 decision in favor of Minnesota last season. Missouri leads the all-time series against Memphis by a 5-2 margin.
