Tigers Hit The Road To AAC Newcomer Wichita State

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's basketball team once again hits the road, this time for a trip to conference newcomer Wichita State. The Tigers and the Shockers will battle it out on the hardwood Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in Wichita, Kan.

Memphis travels to Wichita State after a convincing 72-36 victory over ECU Saturday afternoon. The win over the Pirates was not only the largest margin of victory this season, but the largest over ECU in 29 all-time meetings. Brea Elmore and Cheyenne Creighton led the offensive charge against ECU with 22 and 21 points, respectively. Creighton also pulled down a team-leading 12 rebounds for her ninth double-double this season.

Rangie Bessard leads the team offensively with 18.6 points per game and rebounds with 7.7 per game. She's also the team leader in blocks with 14 and has started in all 17 games this season. In addition to Bessard, Diamond Lockhart is averaging in double-figures with 10.1 points per game. Lockhart is the team leader in steals with 21 and assists with 50.

Keitha Adams is in her first season as the head coach of Wichita State after spending 16 years at UTEP. This is the first season that Wichita State is a member of the AAC and in the preseason poll, the Shockers were selected to finish 10th.

- After scoring 21 points against ECU, Cheyenne Creighton is now just 27 points shy of eclipsing 1,000 points in her career. She is on track to become the sixth player under head coach Melissa McFerrin to reach the milestone and 24th player in program history.
- Against ECU, Brea Elmore scored a team-high 22 points. Elmore now has six 20-point games to her name this season and has now eclipsed 800 career points.
- Creighton's double-double last Saturday was her ninth this season, a total that surpassed last year's final tally of eight. The 17 double-doubles in her career is a feat that only eight other Memphis players have ever achieved.
- Jada Stinson started her first-ever collegiate game against ECU and ended up playing in all 40 minutes. She finished with nine points, three assists, two steals and a season-high four rebounds. She currently ranks fourth on the team and first among freshmen with 6.5 points per game.
- Taylor Barnes continues to improve as a sophomore as she is averaging a career-high 8.3 points per game. In the win over ECU, Barnes also matched her career-high in assists with eight. She ranks third on the team in scoring.
