Track And Field Sets School Record, Two Meet Records

Teams log 20 top-three performances at KMS Invitational.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the third-straight meet of the indoor season, sophomore Cera Chavez set a school record to lead the University of Memphis track and field teams at the KMS Invitational. The invitational, held at the Birmingham Crossplex, was a non-scoring meet.
And, for the second-straight week, Chavez improved her mark in the women's 200 meters. Chavez ran a 23.97 at the KMS Invitational, besting her time of 24.08 at the Jan. 20 Vanderbilt Invitational. At the time, Chavez's 24.08 broke the previous mark of 24.09 set by Kala Funderburk in 2013.
At the Dec. 2 Vanderbilt Opener, Chavez set the school record in the women's 60 meters with a time of 7.39.

Tigers Tidbits/KMS Highlights
- The Tigers men's squad set two KMS Invitational meet records in Birmingham.
- Luke Vaughn set the meet record in the men's shot put with a 58-9.25 (17.91m) mark. The previous meet record was 58-7.25 (17.86m) at the 2017 invitational. Vaughn set the Memphis school record in the shot put at the Birmingham Crossplex in last year's American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships (59-7; 18.16m).
- The men's 4x400 meter relay also set a KMS Invitational meet record with a time of 3:12.73. The previous record was 3:12.84 last year. The Tigers' 4x400 meter relay has had great success running at the Birmingham Crossplex. In 2016, that 4x400 meter team set the school record in the event with a 3:13.55 (previous record at the time was a 3:15.50 in 1983). Then, last year, the Tigers' 4x400 relay won the American Athletic Conference Indoor crown at the same venue.
- Memphis posted six first-place finishes at the KMS Invitational, including sweeping the men's and women's shot put and weight throw.
- Freshman DeeNia McMiller was the lone double-winner for the Tigers. She swept the women's shot put (47-1.75; 14.37m) and weight throw (60-3; 18.36m) crowns.
- Vaughn won the men's shot put title, and sophomore Adam Neelly took the men's weight throw championship with a personal-best 57-4.25 (17.48m).
- Saida Burns-Moore won the women's triple jump with a mark of 40-2 (12.24m).
- The Tigers also posted 13 other second/third-place performances at the KMS Invitational.
- Those Tigers with personal-bests at the KMS Invitational were: Ryan Champlin in the men's 400 meters (48.51); Matthew Kamph in the men's mile (4:15.34); Parker Evans in the men's shot put (47-9.75; 14.57m) and weight throw (56-1.25; 17.10m); Paris Perkins in the women's 200 meters (25.25); Hannah Pettigrew in the women's mile (5:26.54); Paige Sandwell in the women's 3000 meters (10:10.97); Mary Betsy Minkler in the women's 3000 meters (10:50.75); Mona Jaidi in the women's shot put (44-0.75; 13.43m); Kate Hise in the women's weight throw (47-11; 14.60m); and Lily Moore in women's pole vault (11-5.75; 3.50m).
