Statement on Tiger Football Returning to Memphis

Initial statement on team's return; official AAC statement to come Friday morning.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The football game between Memphis and UCF, which had been slated for Friday night, will not be played as scheduled as a result of continuing concerns related to Hurricane Irma.

The game was originally scheduled Saturday and was later adjusted for a 6:30 p.m. start time Friday. In light of Florida governor Rick Scott's Thursday order for public universities to focus on storm preparation, the schools and the conference agreed that the game would not be played this week.

At 2:01 a.m. (CT):
The University of Memphis football team has returned to Memphis after Governor Rick Scott closed all Florida state universities, Thursday night. Memphis will continue working with The American Athletic Conference and UCF in the morning.
