Olivia Gauthier Named AAC Defensive Player of the Week

Rachel Ashworth Shepard added to Weekly Honor Roll
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Junior defender Olivia Gauthier of the No. 18 University of Memphis women's soccer team has been named the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week this week after helping lead the Tigers to a pair of shutout victories at the Music City Invitational. Goalkeeper Rachel Ashworth Shepard was also recognized this week and was placed on the Weekly Honor Roll.

Gauthier was named to the Music City Invitational All-Tournament Team after leading the Tiger defense to their third and fourth shutouts of the 2017 season. The Tigers allowed just 14 shots all weekend including a season-low four shots allowed in the 6-0 win over Rhode Island.

She started in both matches and played in all 180 minutes of action for the Tigers.

Ashworth Shepard finished the weekend with five saves and she also played in every minute for Memphis. She leads the league with four shutouts, a .941 save percentage, and a 0.19 goals against average. This is the second time this season Ashworth Shepard has been recognized by the conference.

The Tigers will resume play this weekend in the Memphis Tournament at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex.
