Women’s Golf Eighth Thru Day One at Lady Paladin

Fletcher finishes one under on the day.
MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis women's golf team is eighth following an opening round 300 in the first round of the Lady Paladin Invitational at the Furman University Golf Club in Greenville, South Carolina, Friday. Daytona State leads the field after going -4 (284) in the first round. Virginia Tech (288), Furman (293) and Middle Tennessee State (295) round out the top four. Three teams are tied for fifth two strokes ahead of the Tigers: East Tennessee State, Kennesaw State and UNC Wilmington.
Michaela Fletcher led Memphis through the opening round, carding a 71 (-1). Fletcher birdied two holes on the back side and will tee off of one at 11:06, Saturday.
Sydney Colwill birdied her first hole of the morning, but a run of three holes from five to seven pushed her to +2. She finished the round with a 76 and is tied for 36th. She will tee off of one at 10:39, Saturday morning.
Madison Thomas is also tied at 36th overall with an opening round 76. Thomas bounced back from a double on her first hole of the opening round, but saved it with a birdie on two to get back to even. She pushed her score to one under with a birdie on five, but a double and a bogey on the next two holes moved her back to +2. Thomas carded two birdies on the back nine, but four bogeys pushed her to +4 on the day. She will tee off at 9:45, Saturday.
Abby Herrmann and Emily Goldenstein at tied for 48th at the end of the first round. The tandem each posted a 77 in the opening round. Goldenstein will tee off at 10:39 and Herrmann at 10:30 on Saturday.
Jiwon Jeon holds a six stroke lead at the end of the opening round. Jeon carded a 64 and holds a six stroke lead on a group of four players that includes teammate Hollie Muse.
