Lemke and Story ranked 41st in preseason rankings.
MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis men's tennis team will start the 2017-18 season with one ranked doubles team. The preseason rankings were released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) earlier this week and the pairing of Kai Lemke and Matt Story will start the fall ranked tied for 41st in the country.
Coming off of its fifth NCAA tournament appearance in six seasons, the University of Memphis men's tennis team capped last season ranked number 36 in the country. Story, who redshirt the 2016 spring season, would be an integral part of the Tigers' 15-9 overall record. As a freshman, he went 7-7 in singles and teamed with fellow freshman Jan Pallares for a 14-6 mark in doubles, including a 12-6 mark at three.
Lemke, the other half of the ranked doubles tandem for the Tigers, will be playing with his fourth different doubles partner this season. Having teamed with Connor Glennon and Louis Asser in their senior seasons, Lemke teamed with Andrew Watson last year, posting a 9-9 mark at one doubles and capping the year ranked number 68 in the country. But Watson will not play for the University of Memphis for the fall semester, opting to train at home in the UK and compete in the ITF Futures circuit to bank points before returning to the roster in the spring, and Lemke was left looking for a new doubles partner.
Men's tennis will open the fall season next weekend at the Alabama Invitational.
