Women’s Golf Holds 15 Stroke Lead at the End of Day One

Fletcher leads the field by four strokes through two rounds.
MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis women's golf team holds a 15-stroke lead at the end of the first day of play at the Missouri State/Payne Stewart Memorial tournament. Memphis scored 293-287 in the opening two rounds for a 580, a 15 stroke lead over Murray State.
Memphis built the lead with four players in the top 10, including individual leader Michaela Fletcher. Fletcher followed her opening round 72 with a 69 in the second round to lead the field at 141 through 36 holes. She was the lone golfer of the 90 entries to end the first day under par.
Emily Goldenstein is tied for third after a 72-74 in her opening two rounds while sophomore Abby Herrmann rounded out the top five one stroke back at 147 (77-70). Junior Sydney Colwill rounded out the Tigers in the top 10 with a 148 (72-76).
Madison Thomas rounded out the team scorers with a 154 (80-74) in her first competitive rounds of the year. Thomas' 154 has her tied for 37th overall. One of the players she is tied with is freshman Julia Matzat. Matzat carded a 76 in her first collegiate round, then scored a 78 for her opening day 154.
Sophomore Ellie Youree played an opening round, carding a 76, before withdrawing in the second round.
Memphis will finish up the tournament, Tuesday, at Twin Oaks Country Club. Memphis will go off tees one through three starting at 8:30 a.m.
