Tiger Tuesday: August 8
Aug 08, 2017 | Tiger Tuesday
Headlines for Tiger fans every Tuesday
August 8 -- Good afternoon from the Athletic Communications Office! I am Assistant Athletic Director Tammy DeGroff and here are five things I thought Tiger fans may want to catch this week:
Â
1. Football Camp Underway -- Practice #10 went in the books this morning, and as Coach Norvell reminds the team, "you don't get that opportunity back." We are heading to Jackson, Tenn., for training camp Wednesday through Saturday. Â Our scrimmage at 10 am on Saturday at Lambuth is open to the public.
The Lambuth Alumni Chapter will host a pre-scrimmage breakfast from 8 am-9:35 (more info HERE) in the Wilder Dining Hall. Knowing how many fans we had last year for our scrimmage, the seating at Lambuth is a bit smaller than what we had last year, so plan some time to find parking and maybe toss some lawn chairs in the trunk in case you can't find a bleacher to claim. A parking map is below. If you use a GPS or phone, put in 919 West King Street in Jackson. Then look for some Tiger signs!
Â
2. Picked to win it all! Women's soccer was picked earlier today to win the American Athletic Conference. The team reported last Wednesday and the Memphis Tiger Network caught up with the team and an antsy Brooks Monaghan (& that was before he found out they were picked to win the league!) in the video below.
Â
2a (because I can't count) Tigers in the Community . Also, read the piece on senior defender Sessen Stevens and her medical mission trip earlier this summer HERE (she's also in the preseason video above!). As a team, Memphis women's soccer ranked second in the country last year in community service hours and just had 23 student-athletes named to the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team for a GPA of 3.0 or higher last year. #TakingCareOfBusinessOnAndOffThePitch
3. Reporting From All Over Campus!Â
Tuesday will be photo day for the men's soccer team (who reports on Wednesday), so follow their social media accounts and see what behind-the-scenes shots you can find! They are on Instagram (@MemphisMSoccer), Twitter (@MemphisMSoccer) and Facebook (/MemphisSoccer). Admission for all Memphis men's and women's soccer matches is free and later this fall we will see both the men's and women's teams return to campus to play matches on the Park Avenue Campus facility located in the center of the track (HERE). Â
Volleyball also reported to the Elma Roane Fieldhouse on Monday. You can follow them on social media on Twitter (@MemphisVolley), Instagram (@MemphisVolley) and Facebook (/memphisvolleyball). They opened their first two days of camp with a 'boot camp' start. You can  read more about that HERE.
Â
4. Baseball construction got underway on Monday. An expansion to the Babe Howard facility started Monday morning...Coach Rock is fired up and tweeted the first photo of the work from his account (@CoachRock43).
Â
5. Tigers Crossing the Stage! We sent nine more Tigers across the stage at FedExForum on Sunday as part of commencement. That puts our number of graduates in 2016-17 at 72! Congrats to our summer grads and #GoTigersGo!Â
