Team Gray Wins Scrimmage Wednesday

Tigers open 2017 season at Eastern Illinois Invitational Friday.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis volleyball team officially put the wraps on its preseason drills Wednesday with its second Blue-Gray scrimmage at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse. In the three-set exhibition, the Gray defeated the Blue 2-1 by scores of 15-25, 25-20, 25-23.

Memphis now turns its attention to Friday's season opener versus Bradley at the Eastern Illinois Panther Invitational in Charleston, Ill. Friday's match time is 4 p.m. (CT). The Tigers also face Eastern Illinois and Green Bay Saturday.

Head coach April Jauregui comments on the scrimmage
"We needed another scrimmage to create a 'match-like' environment. The coaches were looking at players that felt at ease on the court. We know there still will be jitters in our first match Friday, but we're looking for the players that are confident and will execute.
"Our players had fun today, and that was a reason for this scrimmage – to close the preseason with some fun. What also was good today was that some players that struggled Saturday (first scrimmage) played well today. We have 19 players, so we have the depth to make changes when players are struggling in matches. Our defense was good again today. Hopefully, we got all the jitters out, and we're ready to go."
