Tigers thrower returns to campus next week for the start of the 2017 fall semester.
TAIPEI, Taiwan – Ashley Pryke, a rising junior on the University of Memphis track and field squad, finished 13th in the Qualification Group A of the women's javelin at the 2017 World University Games Wednesday. She had a mark of 158-10 (48.41m) and did not advance to Friday's final in the event.
Pryke, who was competing in her first World University Games, was the third-youngest thrower in Qualification Group A. Pryke returns to campus next week to begin the 2017 fall semester and her third collegiate season with the Tigers.
The Peterborough, Ontario native had a tremendous sophomore campaign in 2017, culminating in a third-place (bronze) finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in early June. Pryke threw a school-record 186-9 (56.93m) and earned U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches (USTFCCCA) All-America first team honors.
In addition to her 2017 NCAA Championships performance, Pryke won the women's javelin crown at the American Athletic Conference Championships in mid-May. She won the title (181-0; 55.18m) by nearly six feet over the second-place finisher. Pryke also placed first in all seven regular-season outdoor meets in 2017.
Pryke's 186-9 (56.93m) throw at the NCAA Championships re-set her own school record for the fourth time in 2017. She set her initial school mark as a freshman (160-10; 49.03m) and then re-set it at the 2017 season-opening Rhodes Invitational (175-3; 53.41m), Arkansas State Red Wolves Open (177-5; 54.09m), American Athletic Conference Championships (181-0; 55.18m) and NCAA Championships.
For her career, Pryke has 13 top-three finishes in the women's javelin, including nine first-place performances.
