Preseason Camp Progresses For Men’s Soccer
Aug 14, 2017 | Men's Soccer
Week two begins for the Tigers which includes a pair of exhibition matches
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Week two of the 2017 Memphis men's soccer preseason camp is underway and a pair of exhibition matches are quickly approaching for head coach Richard Mulrooney and his Tigers. Memphis will take on Alabama-Huntsville Tuesday evening at 5:30 p.m. and Jefferson College Saturday morning at 11 a.m. Both matches will be played at the Park Avenue Campus pitch.
With 11 total practices leading up to the season opener on August 25, the Tigers are making solid progress and are in line with the expectations Mulrooney and his staff have up to this point. Three of the key elements the Tigers are working on are building up their fitness base, building team chemistry in offensive situations, and pressuring defensively to force turnovers and create offensive attacks.
The two exhibitions this week are the only two for the Tigers this season. UAH, a Division II squad, was selected to finish sixth in the Gulf South Conference. Senior Jordan Wright landed himself a spot on the preseason All-GSC team last week.
Jefferson College is a junior college out of Hillsboro, Missouri. Last season, four players were named to the 2016 first and second team all-regional squad and six players were MCCAC All-Conference selections.
The 2017 regular season begins August 25 at Belmont before returning to the Mike Rose Soccer Complex on August 27 for a match against UAB at 5 p.m. Admission is always free for home Memphis soccer matches. Follow the Tigers on Facebook at /MemphisSoccer and Twitter and Instagram at @MemphisMSoccer.
