Track And Field Earns Academic Recognition

Both teams receive USTFCCCA honor for sixth-straight year.
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The University of Memphis men's and women's track and field squads earned U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team awards for 2016-17, the organization announced Friday. It is the sixth-consecutive season both teams received the national honor.
Memphis is one of five American Athletic Conference institutions to have both its men's and women's track and field programs earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Team accolades. Overall, 218 women's programs and 142 men's programs nationally were honored for their academic accomplishments in the 2016-17 campaign.
The Tigers men's program posted a 3.39 grade-point average (GPA), the second-highest among the five American Athletic Conference schools that made the list. The Tigers men's 3.39 GPA was 14th-highest among the 142 programs that received the accolade.
The women's GPA was 3.36, which was fifth-best among the American Athletic Conference schools that received the recognition.
Earlier this year, the Memphis women's cross country squad earned a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award with its 3.56 GPA. The Tigers had the second-highest GPA of all 11 American Athletic Conference women's cross country programs that earned the USTFCCCA honor.
