Criticos Competes At NCAA Championships Wednesday

EUGENE, Ore. – University of Memphis track and field's Michael Criticos competed in the men's javelin during first-day action at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships Wednesday. The national meet is hosted by the University of Oregon at the Ducks' historic Hayward Field.
Criticos, a junior, placed 13th among the event's 24 competitors. He threw a personal season-best 227-0 (69.18m). His previous 2017 season-best was 226-7 (69.06m) at Southeast Missouri's Joey Haines Invitational in early April.
Criticos was the only competitor in the men's javelin at the NCAA Championships from the American Athletic Conference.
His 13th-place performance tied his effort in the 2015 NCAA Championships. At the 2015 national meet, Criticos had a 223-5 (68.09m) throw in the javelin.
On Thursday, Ashley Pryke competes at the NCAA Championships in the women's javelin. The event starts at 7:45 p.m. (CT).
