McMiller, Neelly Compete At USATF Junior Meet Friday

Neelly returns to action in men's discus Saturday.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – University of Memphis freshmen Adam Neelly and DeeNia McMiller both competed Friday in the 2017 USA Track and Field (USATF) Outdoor Junior National Championships. Sacramento State's Hornet Stadium is the site of the juniors national meet.
McMiller participated in the women shot put, and Neelly in the men's shot put.
McMiller placed ninth in the women's shot put with a personal-best throw of 48-1.25 (14.66m). Her previous-best was 47-7.75 (14.52m) at the May 6 Ole Miss Classic. It was that throw at the Ole Miss Classic which qualified McMiller for the USATF Junior Championships.
McMiller hit the 48-1.25 (14.66m) mark on her first attempt Friday and just missed advancing to the event finals. The top-eight advance to the finals after three attempts (eighth-place was 48-6/14.78m).
Neelly was 14th in the men's shot put with a 57-2 (17.42m) throw. The throw was his second-best of the outdoor season, falling shy of his season-best 57-7.75 (17.57m) mark.
Neelly fouled on his first two attempts and recorded his mark on his third and final throw.
On Saturday, Neelly competes in the men's discus. The event starts at 12:20 p.m. (CT).
