Former Tiger to be part of Wimbledon main doubles draw in July.
MEMPHIS – Former University of Memphis men's tennis player Joe Salisbury was awarded a wild card in to the main doubles draw at Wimbledon on Wednesday. Salisbury, who graduated from Memphis as the program's all-time leader in doubles victories (97), will play in the main doubles draw with Brydan Klein at Wimbledon, July 3-16th.
Salisbury graduated from the University of Memphis in 2014 after helping Memphis to its first three straight NCAA championship tournament appearances, including a Round of 16 appearance in 2013.
Salisbury, who teamed primarily with David O'Hare in his time at Memphis, went pro after the duo's NCAA Doubles appearance in 2014. Teaming with O'Hare, Salisbury won three Futures doubles titles in 2014. In 2015, he and O'Hare added four more doubles titles, including a Challenger title at Champaign to end the season, while also winning a Futures title with Ryan Agar in Egypt. Last year, Salisbury reunited with O'Hare and the pair won two more doubles titles, including the Columbus Challenger at the end of the season.
In 2017, Salisbury and O'Hare moved up to playing Challenger level events, winning the doubles title at Dallas and earning a wild card bid to the Memphis Open back in February. After the Memphis Open appearance, Salisbury and O'Hare played in Challenger events in Quebec, France, Taipei and Korea. O'Hare worked his ATP schedule around his Davis Cup obligations for Ireland, helping his countrymen earn a Davis Cup Promotion.
As the grass season got underway, Salisbury remained in his native England and has competed in the Aegon Trophy Series, sponsored by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA).
The tandem of Salisbury and Klein have been paired together for three tournaments, advancing to the semifinals at Subiton and Nottingham and winning 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 on Thursday to advance to the doubles finals at the Ilkley event.
This will be Salisbury's first career Grand Slam event appearance.

- Current Tiger Ryan Peniston is still stateside and played in the qualifying draw of a second event in Winston-Salem, North Carolina this week. After winning his way to the main draw of the event last week, Peniston suffered a tough 6-7 (5), 7-6 (3), 7-6 (4) loss in the qualifying opening round.
- Peniston's teammates are also having some solid summer tennis outings back at home. Jan Pallares and Chris Patzanovsky each won events in their respective home countries (Spain and Germany). Patzanovsky will be a junior next season while Pallares will return for his sophomore year.
