Tigers Add Transfer Madison Kurtz To Roster

Kurtz transfers from Chattanooga State for 2017-18 season
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team and head coach Natalie Poole announce the addition of Madison Kurtz, a transfer from Chattanooga State, to the 2017-18 roster. Kurtz is the ninth addition for the Tigers, helping complete a roster that graduated four seniors in 2017.

Kurtz has been a member of the Chattanooga State Community College softball team for the past two years where she recorded 66 RBI, 55 runs and seven home runs in that span. She helped lead her team to a 99-33 overall record in two seasons and capped that record with a 56-15 mark in conference play.

In 2017, Chattanooga State was crowned Regional Champions and at the NJCAA Nationals, Kurtz went 2-for-3 with a home run and a pair of RBI. She finished the 2017 season with a .340 batting average and .982 fielding percentage.

As a freshman, Kurtz was awarded the TCCAA Distinguished Scholar-Athlete award. In order for a freshman to receive the honor, student-athletes need to achieve at least a 3.2 GPA in 24 hours of coursework.

Prior to joining the Tigers, Kurtz played softball and basketball all four years at West Creek High School. As a senior in 2015, she finished with a .458 batting average, a .494 on base percentage and recorded eight home runs. Her efforts as a senior awarded her with All-Area recognition.

Madison is going to be a great addition. She played on a national level with her junior college, and loves to compete.  She will bring great experience and a lot of fight.
