Tigers Volleyball Announces 2017 Schedule

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Twelve home matches, four pre-conference tournaments and a new conference travel partner highlight the 2017 University of Memphis volleyball schedule that was announced Friday.

The Tigers, under the direction of 10^th-year head coach April Jauregui, face a daunting schedule in 2017 with a team that welcomes nine newcomers to NCAA Division I volleyball and loses its top-three attackers and three of its top-four blockers from the 2016 squad.

2017 Schedule Notes

Of the Tigers' 32 regular-season matches, 20 are on the road (11 conference matches/9 non-conference matches)
Twelve home matches at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse include nine league encounters and three in the Memphis Invitational Sept. 15-16
Road-heavy slate at beginning and end of regular season; 11 of season's first 14 matches away from home and seven of final 10 on the road
Primary portion of home schedule is Sept. 29-Oct. 22 with six of eight conference matches at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse over that 24-day span
With Wichita State's addition to The American for the 2017-18 athletics season, the league field stands at 12 teams; Tigers and Shockers are travel partners
League schedule is 20 games (9 home/11 away)
Campaign opens with four-straight, pre-conference tournaments (EIU Panther Classic, UCA Invitational, Louisiana Tech Invitational, Memphis Invitational); Tigers play three matches in each tournament
In-season tournament matches at Eastern Illinois, Central Arkansas and Louisiana Tech being returned after those schools played in one of Memphis' two in-season tournaments in 2016
2017 Memphis Invitational on Sept. 15-16 is the team's final pre-conference tune-up before the league play opens
Tigers' American Athletic Conference slate starts with road trips to Connecticut Sept. 22 and Temple Sept. 24
Conference home-opening weekend is Sept. 29 and Oct. 1 with matches versus UCF and USF
Only one-time conference foes in 2017 are Houston Oct. 6 and Tulane Oct. 8; all other league opponents are home-and-away matches

2017 Tigers Tidbits/Team Notes

Head coach April Jauregui welcomes the largest class in her tenure with eight newcomers in 2017. The eight newcomers are Kelsea Bivins, Tia Gleason, Hannah Flowers, Kate Hoerdemann, Alyssa Kronberg, Daija Lowe, Adjuwa Osborne and Joze Smith.
Memphis has only three seniors on its 2017 roster. The three seniors are Regan Comperry, Faith Myers and Kendall Seering.
Regan Comperry (731 assists) and Faith Myers (409) return as the team's assists leaders from 2016. The tandem combined for 87.8 percent of the squad's assists (1,140-of-1299) in 2016.
Mady Ruhlman returns as the squad's leader in digs (414) from a season ago.
Tai Bierria (192 kills) and Brianna Kadiku (124) are the team's top returning attackers. Bierria had seven matches in which she posted double-digit kills. Kadiku had one double-digit kills performance and eight matches with six or more kills.
