MEMPHIS – University of Memphis women's golfer Sydney Colwill will play for the 85th Tennessee Women's Amateur Championship, Friday, at Memphis National Golf Club. She will face Abigail Heck in match play beginning at 8:32 a.m.
Colwill won a pair of matches on Friday after the quarterfinal start times were pushed back due to morning thunderstorms in Memphis. Colwill then had to face two-time Tennessee Senior Amateur Champ Lynda Wimberly of Brentwood in the quarterfinal round, finishing 1-up to advance to the afternoon semifinal match.
In the semis, Colwill faced Austin Peay's Meghann Stamps, a rising sophomore who was coming off a 22-hole thriller to earn her semifinal spot, and advanced past her, 7 and 5, to advance to Friday's championship match.
In the championship, Colwill will face Notre Dame signee Abigail Heck. Heck took out Middle Tennessee junior Jenna Burris, who led at the end of two rounds of stroke play, 4 and 3.
Colwill, who will be a junior on the Memphis women's golf team this fall, has qualified for 16 of 19 collegiate events since coming to Memphis from Arizona. In her first collegiate tournament, she finished fourth at the Memphis Intercollegiate at Ridgeway Country Club.
