Hathcock and Crosby Selected in the MLB Draft

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis junior pitchers Colton Hathcock and Drew Crosby have both been selected in the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft Wednesday. The juniors pitchers were also joined by signee Riley Cabral, who helped Chipola College to the Junior College National Championship this season.
Hathcock was drafted in the 15th round by the Colorado Rockies while Crosby was taken in the 26th round by the Detroit Tigers.
The 446th overall pick, Hathcock was put into a new role this season as the team's closer and recorded 11 saves out of the bullpen. He finished the season with a 3.94 ERA and a 3-4 record, while his 11 saves rank as the third-most in a single season in Memphis history. He completed his career with a 3.95 ERA in 52 appearances over three seasons. In 173 1/3 innings pitched he struck out 172 batters.
Hathcock is the fourth Memphis Tiger to be drafted by the Rockies and the first since Sam Moll in 2013.
The 785th overall pick, Crosby also transitioned into a new role in 2017 moving into the starting rotation. In 15 starts and 18 total appearances he compiled a 5.48 ERA and a 6-3 record. Crosby struck out 68 batters in 87 innings pitched as a junior this season. For his career he has a 6.17 ERA in 55 appearances on the mound with 109 strikeouts.
Crosby is the fifth Memphis Tiger to be drafted by the Tigers and the first since Brent Dlugach in 2004.
The two Tiger pitchers join outfielder Chris Carrier, who was drafted in the ninth round by the Chicago Cubs.
