Tigers have four players receive recognition by the conference
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior outfielder Lindsay Crowdus has been named the American Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Year and is one of four Tigers to receive conference recognition Wednesday morning. Junior shortstop Kyler Trosclair joins Crowdus by earning first-team honors while sophomore catcher Regan Hadley has been named to the second-team and freshman third baseman Erin Parker has been named to the All-Rookie team.
"I am so happy for Lindsay Crowdus for being honored with the AAC Player of the Year award," said head coach Natalie Poole. "She truly deserves this for being a hugely impactful player on both defense and offense. Her numbers have been great all year, and they just show you that she has come through for us all year long."
This is the first time in school history that the Tigers have had a player earn Player of the Year recognition by their respective conference. It is also the first time ever for Memphis to have two players earn first-team honors and the first time since the 2011 season. Crowdus shares the POY honor with Houston's Shelby Miller as ties are not broken.
"I am proud of these ladies for all of their hard work and dedication to being true competitors on the field," said head coach Natalie Poole. "The conference honors are well-deserved."
Crowdus led the Tigers this season with a .455 batting average, a mark that marks the first time in school history a player has hit over .400. She also shattered the single-season hits record, now by 18, with 81 so far. Crowdus will end her Memphis career as the all-time hits leader, triples leader and batting average leader.
Earlier this season, Crowdus was named a 2017 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Finalist, another recognition no other Memphis player had achieved. She has been honored by the conference multiple times this season including a Player of the Week nod on March 27.
Trosclair, the 2015 American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year, earned her first-ever all-conference team nod after finishing with a career-high .395 batting average and 66 hits. With 31 stolen bases this season and 64 in her career, Trosclair has become the all-time steals leader at Memphis.
The 36 runs scored, six triples, five doubles, and 14 RBI are also career-highs for the Houma, La. native and Trosclair's .950 fielding percentage is the highest of her career.
Hadley, the everyday catcher for the Tigers, is also having the best season of her young career for the Tigers. With a .261 batting average, Hadley has recorded 41 hits with nine doubles, a pair of triples, and three home runs including a grand slam against UConn this past weekend. She has played in 53 games for Memphis with 52 starts and carries a .993 fielding percentage in 276 attempts.
"Kyler has played a great shortstop for us this year and has been a great lead off hitter for us," added Poole. "Crowdus has played aggressively on defense, with maturity and poise, while being a consistent threat at the plate. Both Kyler and Crowdus are tremendous base runners as well. Regan has led this team well behind the plate, while coming through for us again and again at the plate. All three have a strong competitive nature and play with passion."
Parker, a freshman from Louisville, Ky., earned herself a starting role at the hot corner early in the 2017 season. In her first season with the Tigers, Parker recorded 27 hits in 49 starts with 10 stolen bases and a .955 fielding percentage.
"Erin earned her way onto the rookie team all while playing a new position and switching to hit on the left side of the plate for the first time on a consistent basis," said Poole. "She is a hard worker and is committed to learning the game and perfecting it. She will just continue to get better and better, but is off to a great start."
The Tigers are preparing to take on USF in the quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference Tournament Thursday at 9 a.m. CT. The game can be viewed on the American Digital Network.
