Wind Garners Second Career All-Conference Honor
May 04, 2017 | Women's Tennis
MEMPHIS – Returning from a knee surgery that cost her last season, redshirt junior women's tennis player Anki Wind was voted to the American Athletic Conference all-conference team in a vote of league coaches, Thursday. It is the second career honor for Wind, who was a second team all-conference honoree in her freshman season in 2014.
In her first match back in the fall of 2016, Wind upended a top 40 ranked player and put together an 11-3 mark in the fall campaign. In the spring, Wind found herself again atop the Memphis singles lineup and posted a 7-6 mark in dual season play, including a 4-6 mark at one and a 3-0 mark at two. But as she hit a winner on the road at Middle Tennessee in a neutral site win over VCU, Wind suffered a second knee injury, this time on the opposite leg, requiring surgery and ending her year with three regular season matches remaining. She had won two in a row before her injury.
"I am very proud of Anki for earning all-conference honors this year," Head Coach Hayden Perez said. "She faced some adversity in the form of a knee injury last year, but did a great job in rehab and had an outstanding season in her comeback. Her fall was amazing and she had just reached her old form in the spring season when injury struck again. She is a very deserving young lady and joins a great group of players within the conference!"
Wind is also one of 50 Memphis student-athletes set to graduate on Saturday at FedExForum. She will receive her degree in International Business.
