May 04, 2017 | Men's Golf
GUADALAJARA, Spain - Former Tiger standout Lars van Meijel carded a seven-under 65 at the Alps de Las Castillas, the third event in the Alps Tour this season.
The Best, Netherlands native had eight birdies and one bogey on his round, with five of the birdies coming in the last seven holes on the course. He is currently one stroke ahead of second place, and two ahead of a three-way tie for third place in the field.Â
In his first two events of the tour, van Meijel placed first at the Red Sea Little Venice Open on February 20, and took fourth at the Ein Bay Open on February 14. The tour took a two-month break between events before starting the current 2017 Alps de las Castillas event.
Through his two tournaments, he has earned a tour-high €6,425, with €5,000 of that coming from his tour victory at the Red Sea Little Venice Open.
van Meijel's former teammate with the Tigers Thomas Perrot is also competing in the event, and is tied for 93rd overall with a three-over 75. He struggled early in the round, standing seven strokes over par through the first six holes, before rebounding strong. Perrot's last 12 holes saw him shoot four strokes under par, and with strong momentum heading into the second round tomorrow.
Perrot tied for seventh at the Red Sea Little Venice Open earlier this season, while tying for 48th at the Ein Bay Open. He stands tied for 22nd in the tour, having earned €716.
