May 04, 2017 | General
MEMPHIS – Fifty University of Memphis student-athletes will complete their degrees with commencement ceremonies at the University of Memphis, Saturday. Commencement will be held in two sessions at FedExForum. Graduates in the College of Arts & Sciences, Communication and Fine Arts and University College will be a part of the 10 a.m. ceremony, while graduates in the Fogelman College of Business & Economics, the Kemmons Wilson School of Hospitality and Resort Management, the College of Education, the School of Health Studies, the Herff College of Engineering, the Loewenberg College of Nursing, the School of Public Health and the School of Communication Sciences & Disorders will be a part of the 2:30 p.m. ceremony.
Fourteen Tigers in baseball, softball and track and field will be competing for the University of Memphis on Saturday, so they were honored last week in a special ceremony. (Read more on that HERE). A number of the Tiger graduates have already landed jobs following graduation, including some with Memphis employers like Service Master, FedEx, International Paper and in the ICU at Methodist North. One of the four men's soccer graduates, Raul Gonzalez, has been completing his degree this semester while also starting a professional playing career with the Richmond Kickers.
Some of the Tigers who will complete their undergraduate degrees on Saturday will still be back in the Blue and Gray next season, as 13 student-athletes are finishing their degrees with remaining NCAA eligibility: Kevin Lee (MGolf), Jake Leeker (MSoccer), Breigha Wilder-Cochran and Ashia Jones from women's basketball, Anki Wind (wtennis), and football players Sam Craft, Jackson Dillon, Nick Jacobs, Christian Johnson, Spencer Smith, Phillip Sumpter, Ernest Suttles and Robby Young.
