Greenlee, Wesner Crowned AAC Champions Sunday
May 14, 2017 | Men's Track and Field, Women's Track and Field
Greenlee wins third-straight triple jump title.
HOUSTON, Texas – Make it a triple crown for University of Memphis' Chardae Greenlee.
The Tigers women's triple jumper won her third-consecutive outdoor crown in final-day action at the 2017 American Athletic Conference Championships Sunday. She won the event with a leap of 41-3.25 (12.58m). Greenlee took the title with a jump six inches longer than the runner-up.
Sophomore Jordan Wesner also took home some hardware Sunday, winning the men's high jump with a 7-2.5 (2.20m) mark. It was Wesner's first league crown and his fourth high jump title of the 2017 season. Wesner was runner-up in the event at last year's conference meet.
Greenlee's and Wesner's titles came on the heels of Ashley Pryke's crown in the women's javelin Saturday. Pryke won the javelin with a school, American Athletic Conference, league meet and Houston's Carl Lewis International Stadium record in the event (181-0; 55.18m).
In the team competition, the Memphis men's squad placed third with 112 points. It was the program's third top-three finish in the four years of The American Championships. The Tigers women's team placed sixth for the program's highest team performance at a league meet since 1996 (3rd at the C-USA Championships). The Memphis women also placed sixth in conference meets in 2003, 2008 and 2009.
