Former Tiger great to be honored along with 2007 NCAA Tournament team
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Continuing a tradition started by head coach Daron Schoenrock in 2005, the Tigers will retire the jersey of former Memphis All-American Adam Amar prior to Saturday's May 6 game against Cincinnati.
As part of Amar's jersey retirement, Memphis will also honor the 10-year anniversary of the Tigers' 2007 NCAA Regional Team. All baseball alumni are encouraged to join the Tigers for this exciting Alumni Day at FedExPark, with pregame festivities expected to begin at 1:35 p.m.
Amar was a four-year starter who played in a program record 217 career games for Memphis. In his stellar career he set school records with 276 hits and 192 runs batted in.
After helping to lead the 2007 team to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1994, Amar was named as a second team All-C-USA selection after hitting .358 with 51 RBI and nine home runs. The Lake Mary, Fla., product was also named to the Jewish Sports Review All-America team.
He ended his career with one final honor as he was named to the NCAA Nashville Regional All-Tournament Team with a .555 average, three home runs and five RBI in two games.
For his four-year career in the Blue and Gray, Amar banged out 31 home runs and 48 doubles, which both stand in the top-5 in Memphis history.
Following the 2007 campaign, Amar went on to play professional baseball for four seasons. In 2008 he was named a Mid-Season All-Star for the Auburn Doubledays of the New York-Penn League.
The 2007 team enjoyed the program's most successful season in 13 years, as the Tigers posted a 36-27 mark and broke a 13-year absence from postseason play, when they were selected as the No. 3 seed in the Nashville Regional.
The Tigers (24-21, 5-10 AAC) will play host to the Bearcats (21-22, 6-9 AAC) for a three-game series Friday through Sunday at FedExPark.
