Tigers post 10 first-place performances at Memphis Invitational.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A day after setting one school record, the University of Memphis track and field squad did one better on the second day of the 2017 Memphis Invitational with two more school marks Saturday. Davon DeMoss and Jordan Wesner set school records in the men's 100 meters and high jump, respectively.
DeMoss' time of 10.17 in the men's 100 meters broke the previous mark of 10.20 held by Ed Hammonds in 1979 and Willie Green in 2006. Wesner broke his own school record with a 7-3.75 (2.23m) mark in the men's high jump. His previous school-record mark was 7-3 (2.21m), which he set at Georgia's Spec Towns Invitational three weeks ago.
DeMoss and Cera Chavez, who set the school record in the women's 200 meters Friday, were double-winners in Saturday's action. In addition to winning the men's 100 meters, DeMoss ran a leg on the first-place men's 4x400 meter relay (3:13.02). Chavez won the women's 100 meters (11.45) and also ran a leg on the first-place women's 4x400 meter relay (3:45.47). Chavez's time (11.45) in the women's 100 meters was a season-best and just 0.05 seconds off the school record.
