Sophomore earns second all-conference award.
MEMPHIS – Sophomore women's golfer Michaela Fletcher earned her second career American Athletic Conference all-conference nod it was announced, Friday. The conference award comes one day after the South Africa native earned an NCAA at-large spot in the Columbus Regional, her second NCAA appearance in as many seasons at Memphis.
Fletcher, who was also an all-conference honoree in her freshman season in 2015-16, is coming back after missing all of last season with a back injury. She came back in 2017 to carry a 73.5 stroke average in 10 collegiate competitions, posting eight top 20 finishes. Fletcher also had three top five finishes this season, including a runner-up finish at the 2017 Central District hosted by Michigan State and a third place finish at the Memphis Intercollegiate. Her third top five was at Memphis' second-to-last regular season event, the 3M Augusta Invitational.
For her two-year playing career, Fletcher has competed in 21 events with 16 top 20 finishes and eight top five finishes.
As one of the top 10 ranked individuals in the GolfStat rankings, she earned her second all-conference honor and also earned an NCAA at-large bid for a second straight season. She will leave on Saturday, May 6th for the NCAA Regional round, where she will again try to earn her way to the NCAA Championship round. The NCAA women's golf championship set up starts with four regional sites and with the top six teams and the top three finishing individuals not in a team entry at each regional advancing to the national site, hosted this year at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill., May 19-24.
Fletcher becomes the first Lady Tiger golfer to earn a spot on the all-conference team in two seasons since current LPGA tour member Marissa Steen (C-USA First Team - 2011, 2012; C-USA Second Team 2010).
Steen is competing on this week's LPGA tour event in Irving, Texas.
